Southern Cornbread Dressing Recipe

Melt butter, then let it cool.

Preheat oven to 375°F & place your dish or skillet in the oven to heat up.

Oops not 350°F

Combine all of your dry ingredients in a large bowl.

Whisk the dry ingredients to mix well.

Whisk the eggs into the buttermilk with a fork.

Add buttermilk mixture to dry ingredients, then mix in melted butter.

Fold together gently, until the wet & dry ingredients are just combined.

Once mixed, carefully remove your hot pan from the oven & coat it with butter.

Pour batter into the hot pan & bake at 375°F for 30 - 35 minutes.

Remove from oven and let cool.

Once the cornbread is baked...

Cook Italian Sausage in a skillet over medium heat.

Break the sausage into small pieces.

Once it is cooked, drain off the grease and set it off to the side.

Melt butter in the same skillet over medium heat.

Remove foil and bake  for another  5 - 10 minutes.

Once the cornbread is cooled off enough to handle, crumble it into a large bowl.

Add the drained sausage to the bowl.

(I changed bowls because the first one was too small.)

Add cooked celery & onions to the bowl, along with any butter left in the pan.

Pour the mixture into a 13 x 9 baking dish & spread it out.

In a small bowl, whisk spices, cream of chicken soup, & broth.

Pour the soup mixture over the cornbread.

Bake the cornbread dressing at 350°F for 30 - 35 minutes.

Looks great!
