Honey Butter is creamy, dreamy, and one of my absolute favorite condiments to make. Take it over the top by whipping it with an electric mixer - then top it with a pinch of salt. It is the perfect finishing touch for just about any dish.
Take a stick of softened butter and whip it until it is smooth and fluffy in a small mixing bowl, then stir in the honey.
½ cup salted butter, 3 tablespoons honey
Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula to make sure you get all the honey.
At this point, I like to split the honey butter into two containers; in one, I store the regular honey butter, and in another, I will make vanilla cinnamon honey butter. (Or, you can make a full batch of cinnamon honey butter.)
To Make Vanilla Cinnamon Honey Butter
To plain honey butter, add vanilla extract, cinnamon, and optionally powdered sugar.
½ teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, 3 tablespoons confectioners sugar
Whip with your hand mixer until combined.
Serve honey butter right away with sea salt sprinkled on top or store it in the refrigerator. Remove from the fridge to soften about 30 minutes before serving.
pinch flaked sea salt
Notes
*If you want to make a batch of Plain Honey Butter and a batch of Cinnamon Honey Butter, separate into two containers, then leave on plain and use ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract, ¼ ground cinnamon, and 1 ½ tablespoons powdered sugar in the other to make Copycat Texas Roadhouse Butter. The sugar makes it super creamy and takes it to another dimension. (See below to make a version with more powdered sugar and less honey to make it closer to the restaurant version.)Servings - This recipe makes a little over ½ cup, and a serving is around ½ tablespoon - 1 tablespoon.
How to Store Honey Butter
I like to store homemade honey butter in an airtight container or a small mason jar in the refrigerator. (It looks cute and will stay fresh in a jar.) Take it out about a half hour before serving it. A little jar of honey butter is also a great hostess gift if you are showing up to a dinner party. I love to bring a small jar with some homemade cornbread. Everyone loves a dollop of honey butter on some warm bread or some hot dinner rolls.
Whipped Butter Variations
Whipped Lemon Butter - Combine a few huge squeezes of lemon juice (about 2 tablespoons) and the lemon zest from half of a lemon with a stick of softened salted butter to make whipped lemon butter. Add a pinch of salt and taste. This compound butter is delicious for muffins, bread, fish, and vegetables. It is super versatile. Honey is optional here. I like it when making butter for muffins and bread, but I would leave it out for fish and veggies.
Whipped Orange Butter - Combine a few huge squeezes of fresh orange juice (about 2 tablespoons) and about a teaspoon of orange zest with a stick of softened salted butter to make whipped orange butter. This compound butter is delicious for muffins, scones, and bread. I would leave the honey in the butter here. Add a pinch of salt and taste.
Vanilla Bean Whipped Honey Butter - Scrape the insides of a vanilla bean into this recipe. Let it sit before serving to let the flavor develop.
Copycat Texas Roadhouse Butter - Combine 1 stick of softened salted butter with ¼ cup powdered sugar, 1 ½ tablespoons of honey, and ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon. Whip until light and fluffy. I like to serve this one on hot rolls or on honey oat bread. It melts into all of the nooks and crannies.
