Gumbo is on the menu for Christmas this year at our house – make it ahead and heat it in the crockpot for more time with family this year. It’s delicious comfort food that everyone will love and no one will be stuck in the kitchen all day!

Mary’s Creole Seafood Gumbo
My mother-in-law’s Creole Seafood Gumbo is rich, delicious, and so hearty. It is a bowl of New Orleans comfort that will take your taste buds on a trip to the Big Easy this Christmas.

Louisiana Seafood Gumbo
Erin’s Louisiana Seafood Gumbo is a hearty stew that is thickened with a dark roux. She adds the classic vegetables, then finish it off with a trio of meat: crab, shrimp, and andouille sausage.

Turkey Gumbo
If you froze any of your leftover Thanksgiving turkey – I like to cook a turkey breast in the crockpot – you can use the meat to make gumbo. I like to make the roux a bit darker than I would if I was making Chicken and Sausage Gumbo and I use turkey stock as the base!
Instant Pot Turkey Stock
Make Instant Pot Turkey Stock from a leftover turkey carcass, turkey bones, and veggies. The flavorful broth is so nutritious, delicious, and easy to make.

Duck Gumbo
If you have duck hunters in your family (or leftover Christmas duck!) I like to make duck gumbo as well. I make a delicious broth by simmering the stock with the ducks in the pot for several hours until the meat falls off the bone. Then, make your favorite gumbo using a dark chocolate colored roux. Serve over white rice with garlic toast.
Garlic Toast
This Super Simple Garlic Toast Recipe is packed with garlic flavor, rich buttery goodness, and perfectly crispy bread that is tender and fluffy inside. Best of all, it can be whipped up in just 10 minutes and is the perfect side dish for gumbo.
