Everything Bagel Seasoning is not just for bagels – you can sprinkle it on everything! It is made with simple ingredients and is equally oniony, garlicky, salty, and of course, delicious.
This Everything Bagel Seasoning Recipe reminds me of eating Everything bagels with cream cheese for breakfast on Saturday mornings as a kid. Real New York bagels are such a treat, and I miss them so much!
What is Everything Bagel Seasoning?
This Everything Bagel Seasoning blend is pretty much just the seasoning that you would expect to find on the top of a real Everything bagel. It has poppy seeds, white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, large flakes of salt, dried minced garlic or dehydrated garlic, and dried minced onion or dehydrated onion. You want to make sure that the onion, salt, and garlic are the huge flakes, so you get punched in the face with the big savory flavors.
Everything Bagel Seasoning Ingredients
This is just a quick overview of the ingredients that you’ll need to make this recipe. As always, specific measurements and complete cooking instructions are included in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Poppy Seeds
- Dried Minced Garlic or Garlic Flakes – Do not use garlic powder or granulated garlic.
- Dried Minced Onion or Onion Flakes – Do not onion powder or granulated onion.
- Flaked Sea Salt or Coarse Sea Salt – I like to use Maldon Sea Salt Flakes. You want to use a flaky sea salt that has large chunks; small bits of table salt will sink to the bottom and get lost in the mix.
- White Sesame Seeds
- Black Sesame Seeds

Store your homemade bagel seasoning mix in a sealed jar or airtight container in your spice cabinet (or another dark place like a pantry) at room temperature.
Helpful Tips
- Make sure you use ingredients that are similar in size – do not use table salt. It will get lost in the mix and sink to the bottom of your container – you will have no salt in some bites and a TON in others!
- I highly recommend using Maldon Flaked Sea Salt – the big chunks are SO good.
- Keep this on hand at all times. You never know when the bagel desire will strike.
- Everything Bagel Seasoning makes a great gift! We gave away Everything Bagel Seasoning with Bayou Blast as wedding favors with messages on the back of the bags that said, “Thank you for coming, it meant EVERYTHING to us,” and, “How sweet it is to be loved BAYOU.”
I love making my own seasoning, but this recipe uses a few ingredients that I can’t get in local grocery stores, so I ordered most of the spices needed to make this recipe on Amazon. It’s just as good as getting the seasoning mix from Trader Joe’s!
