Crispy Fried Okra Recipe

Preheat deep fryer or heat oil in a pot on the stove.

Dice okra into 1/2 inch pieces. Discard stems.

Put okra in a shallow bowl or dish & cover with buttermilk.

Let sit for 15 minutes, stirring halfway through.

Strain okra into a colander over a bowl.

In a large Ziplock bag, combine flour, cornmeal, & spices.

Add okra to the bag.

Close almost all the way, with a straw at the edge. Fill with air, then zip closed.

Shake the bejesus out of it.

Place the okra onto a baking sheet.

If you want to freeze okra for another time, freeze like this, then transfer to a plastic bag.

Drop in one layer of okra and place in the fryer.

Shake as needed to prevent sticking.

Check doneness, then raise out of oil.

Drain okra on paper towels.
